Drawing study of The Great Pine by Paul Cezanne - Alan Dilly
Free Machine embroidery (135mm square) - Alan Dilly
This machine embroidery is based on
one of my favourite paintings
The Great Pine by Paul Cezanne. (Oil on canvas 1892 – 6).
I went to Paris where it was on loan
from Brazil and spent some time sketching it.
Although I also made a copy
painting to practice his technique, I had in mind to develop this as a piece of textiles .
I tried to follow the direction of the brush work in the original and used 17 colours of Madeira threads, as close to Cezanne’s pigments as possible.
